What is Self-Esteem?
Self-esteem is how much you like yourself, how much you value yourself.
Take a moment right now. Close your eyes and answer this: If you truly liked yourself, how different would your life be? Your work, your relationships, your health—how would they change?
When my daughter, a 9-year-old bundle of energy, comes running to me dressed in the most mismatched outfit and accessories, asking me, “How do I look?” I always ask her, “How do you think you look?” And she replies, “I look so good.” In that moment, I know she truly believes it. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we all believed that about ourselves and didn’t run to others for approval?
Remember, as babies and little children, we loved ourselves and were comfortable with who we were. Somewhere along the way, we lost that part of ourselves.
For the next 7 days, consciously PRAISE YOURSELF.
Say, I like myself. I really, really like myself. I matter. I am a good person. Think about different ways you can praise yourself.
When you wake up in the morning, be a good friend to yourself. Don’t dwell on what you did wrong, what you forgot to do, or what you could have done better.
CHOOSE YOUR THOUGHTS AND WORDS WISELY.
When you like yourself…
- You’ll choose the fruit over the bag of chips.
- You’ll say no when you’re tired.
- You won’t be pushed into doing things you don’t want to do.
- You won’t be easily manipulated.
- You’ll speak your truth in a kind, loving way.
